Powassan, Ontario, is also famous as “The Friendly Town”. Powassan is an Ojibway word meaning “bend in the river”. A farmers’ market is held weekly during the summer and fall, right beside the beer store, where visitors can purchase a wide variety of items including fresh garden produce, honey, home-baking, regional maple syrup, sausages, and many local crafts.
Powassan is located near Lake Nipissing as well as near a vast array of small lakes, which offer excellent fishing, boating, and beaches for swimming.
